What are Glaciers

Today I learnt about something that only grows in the south pole and north pole and they are called Glaciers. Glaciers, is formed out of thick masses of ice for over hundreds of years, they form when lots of snow in one location for a million years and scientists had confirmed that there was over 200,000 glaciers around the world As the glaciers move they rub against the ground it is a really known fact.

Today’s I have done some research about Mt Discovery. This week I will be blogging a lot about Antarctica because last week  we had a very interesting man come and visit us and talk about his trips to Antarctica. His name is Jacob Anderson from the BLAKE TRUST, company in New Zealand. A interesting fact about Jacob is  he has been to Antarctica 6 times.

Roy Kerr Report

Today for Inquiry I have finished some work on a famous  New Zealand scientist named Roy Kerr. I chose this scientist because I wanted it to be different from the others. In 1934 Kurow, New Zealand Roy Kerr was born into a  dysfunctional Family. Roy’s mum was forced to leave him at three and his dad left to go to war.

 

 

St. Bathans

Today I learnt about a place at the Otago called St. Bathans and this place used to be called Dustain Creek and St Bathans Today has a Population of fewer than ten people. St Bathans was a rich town in 1887 because it had over 2,000 Miners and public, some of the buildings remain from 18887 today but in the area there were rumours that there were Ghosts around.

 

Game Changers with Logan Williams

Today we were put into groups and were told to do some work on Game Changers with Logan Williams. Logan Williams invents useful things to help save the environment, for example he used Keravos pellets and combined it with wool and polyactic acid(PLA), which is a plastic substitute. Wool to plastic, he is changing the amount of plastic being produced in the world.

 

Vili Term 4 ANTHEA DIXON – Seeing is believing

Today I have done an activity all about the saying Seeing is believing. Seeing is believing means you can be whatever you see even with a disability. I did a short biography about an Paralympian named Anthea Dixon. Paralympics is just the olympics but made for people with a disability. Something I learnt is that even with a disability to never give up on your dreams.

The Whale Rider

 

Today for literacy my class and I have did an activity on a a story called The Whale Rider. The Whale Rider is basically a story about a little girl named Kahu at the age of 8 who lost her mother due to her birth, and because of that her dad went to move somewhere else because of grief. That wants to become a chief just like her ancestors, but her koro (grandfather) always tells her that she cannot be the chief as it is only a job for boys and he says that the tradition of a line of boys being the eldest child, and the eldest child always has to be the next chief, but Kahu was the eldest and she came out a girl which the grandfather didn’t like. This is basically the story but you will see the activities that my group and I did for this story.

Explore the Subject Task 1

today for writing, the whole class did an activity that is focusing on the sentence, Subject Sentence, but to learn more about how to use this during real stories we did an activity involving frogs. What we had to do is open a site with different facts about the frog. Then what we had to do was to find different things about the frog to make up a simple sentence, after we did that we added some of the different facts from that site, that is all from me, bye.

Niuean Language Week Importance of the Coconut

Today for Niuean language week my class and I have done a google drawing explaining why the coconut is important to the Niuean culture and the other cultures. During this activity we had to split into groups of 2, and we did. Coconuts can be used for different stuff or things like  gas for vehicles, and for furniture, did you know that Niue lies 2400km northeast of New Zealand which is in between Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands this is one of the many facts that I learnt yesterday but forgot to put it in my blog.

Niuean Language Week Task 1

Today for Niuean Language week we have learnt some facts and learnt how to properly say greetings in Niuean, for the activity my class and I have taken a screenshot of people saying something, but instead of the text already being there we had to put in the greetings myself, I can’t really explain what happened I don’t know why but you will just see the activity for yourself (but the easiest explaination is just learning the different types of greetings) as in a greeting towards one person two people three and more.
